Today is Monday. For me that means a 5:00am wake up time. On this day I meet at 6:00am for coffee with other gentleman from my church. We meet to discuss a book we are reading together and seek application for our lives. Following our meeting, we head our separate ways and for me that means I grab my coffee to go and head off to work. Following work, in the evening, I have small groups at church. This is a separate gathering of church members that are doing a very similar thing to what we're doing in the morning. But this is the whole church membership involved whereas the a.m. gathering is only those who chose to sign up and attend. I know what you may be thinking, "That's a lot for one day!" Well, yes, it is. Especially when the 2:00pm blahs hit after lunch and I'm struggling to keep my head from hitting my desk in my cozy cubicle. But the a.m. gathering is only temporary. Yet at the same time, I welcome it. You see, a major factor of both gatherings is accountability. Accountability gives other church family members the okay from me to look into my life and evaluate and question my motives and why I do what I do. I give them the go ahead to ask me tough questions as to whether or not I am striving daily to be an ambassador for Christ. There are numerous passages to support biblical/Christian accountability (Galatians 6:1; Hebrews 3:12-13; James 5:16) though this post is not here to flesh out those texts but I encourage you to look at them for yourself. I just want to share what a joy and privilege it is to 'rub shoulders' with other Christians who are serious about fighting sin and pleasing the Lord. Monday is busy but it's great. It's great because (once I'm up and out of bed) it brings a sense of motivation, community, and opportunities to serve one another. These are things that are exciting for me and I pray that they are for you as well.
