You can't see the whole title in the image of this book so allow me to finish the title..."guarding your heart against lust." I had read Joshua Harris before. Maybe you had too. Remember, the guy who kissed dating goodbye?! What is that all about?! Yet, I found the book "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" to be very grounded in Scripture, well, at least more than other books I had read on a similar topic. I'm not even sure that when I read "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" that I knew what a grounded in Scripture book was like, but "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" had something different about it. So I was willing to give "Not Even A Hint" and Joshua Harris a shot. Why not, I was willing to give anything a try in order to keep sexual sin at bay. If I remember correctly, my wife read this one first and said something to the extent of 'This guy's got good theology." I felt the same way when I read it. Harris does an excellent job of putting himself out there and showing guts to admit some struggles he had that honestly are not uncommon to man, but are uncommonly spoken of. He takes the truth of Scripture and applies them directly to our hearts. Teaches us that sexual lust is not an outer man struggle but an inner man struggle that deals with what we worship. He reminds us that God calls each of us, male and female to a very high standard-not even a hint of sexual impurity. And God gives us everything we need to make it a reality. In the past I had read a few other books of the same subject, but they generally dealt with outer man and only dealt with outer man defensive tactics. Whereas Joshua Harris delves into the heart of man, removes us from a legalistic approach to fighting lust and helps us treasure Scripture so much that our desires begin to change from lusting after sexual sin to focusing on Christ and Him crucified. For the record, I've had the privilege of meeting Joshua Harris briefly at a conference. We spoke (as I'm sure he does often when approached by guys like myself) of both books mentioned in this blog and I thanked him for his boldness and hard work in writing them.
*This book was republished in recent years under the title "Sex Is Not the Problem, Lust Is."
