Then when the vision went black, all depth perception was gone, which doesn't do any good for an avid softball player. You try playing third base with only one eye! It ain't easy! Or in my wife's terms "it ain't happening!" Or try taking a pitch from your future major league 4 year old son. Hey, he may be just 4 years old and only throwing a whiffle ball, but that kid can bring the heat and it's very difficult to tell how far away the ball is with no depth perception.
As a result of the severely blurred vision, it's left my eye a bit crooked, or as some call it, lazy. At some level this has proven to be kind of fun in various ways. And as a result of all this I had many good... and bad thoughts running throughout my head.
Since this vision loss, I've had two separate 2 1/2 hour major surgeries to attempt to repair the damage. The image you see above is of a partial detachment. I had total detachment and my retina sat in the fluid and floaters for several days, maybe even weeks, and was sloshed around in it, which resulted in the retina being all twisted up. My doctor and surgeon had to completely pull it apart like a piece of wadded up tin foil and wallpaper (laser surgery) it back into my eye ball. At this time, the light reflecting off my retina is reflecting off a very wrinkled and inflamed retina, so I have a long road ahead of me before I have decent vision in it again.
But I'm thankful that my true sight according to 2 Corinthians 5:7 is by faith and not my fleshly eyes. Because Psalm 73:26 reminds me that "My heart and flesh may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and portion forever." 2 Corinthians 4:8 tells us to "...fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, and what is unseen is eternal." There's nothing on this earth that I need both eyes for. What I need to truly see I can see with no eyes at all! I trust that you remember that your heart and flesh may fail but God is our strength and portion and that is enough. We don't need our limbs to live for His glory! God is good!
