Rest

Those of you who are parents or aunts or uncles can relate to this. Sometimes, while I'm sitting on the couch one of my children will crawl up next to me and put their head on my lap. We begin talking and more than once I've noticed that they stopped talking and when I lean over and look at their face, they are asleep! It's a beautiful thing. I've done this myself before with my Heavenly Father. I'm in bed saying nightly prayers and next thing I know it's morning and I feel guilty for falling asleep during my prayer. Have you ever done this? Felt guilty about it? My kids sure don't feel guilty! Paul Miller says in his book "A Praying Life"

"Jesus does not say "Come to me, all you who have learned to concentrate in prayer, whose minds no longer wander, and I will give you rest." No Jesus opens his arms to His needy children and says "Come to me all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give rest." (Matthew 11:28) The criteria for coming to Jesus is weariness. Come overwhelmed with life. Come with your wandering mind. Come messy."

In Matthew 11:28 Christ is inviting all those who are tired and worn out from life, however that may flesh out in your life right now...fighting sin, striving to please people, striving to find satisfaction in something other than Him, whatever it may be, Christ is saying come to Him, He will give you rest. Similar to how my children will crawl up on my lap (especially when they are cranky and tired) and find comfort and true rest, we have that simple opportunity to crawl up in the Lords lap and find rest.
